Collection: Ray Richardson

Ray Richardson’s paintings depict the iconography of working-class London, such as bull terriers and tough-looking men. Inspired by Edward Hopper and film noir, his compositions have been compared to the cinema of David Lynch and Martin Scorsese. Richardson’s oil-on-canvas Ostenders (ca. 1993–94), a low-angle composition depicting a terse conversation between burly men and a mysterious BMW driver, sold for $56,134 at auction in 2007. Richardson studied art at Central Saint Martins and Goldsmiths, University of London. His honors include a BP Portrait Award Commendation (1990) and British Council Awards (1989, 1999, 2002). Richardson’s work is held in the British Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and London’s National Portrait Gallery.
