ARTIST STATEMENT:

Born in 1961 in Mexicali, Mexico, Simon Silva traversed borders at a tender age, relocating to the United States shortly after his birth. His formative years were marked by a relentless pursuit of education; he worked diligently to fund his studies, ultimately earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Art from the prestigious Art Center College of Design.

Simon has established himself as a prominent figure within the artistic community—not only as an artist but also as an author and speaker. He actively engages diverse audiences, including educators, students, parents, and business professionals, sharing insights and narratives that underscore the transformative power of education.

As the sole member of a family of eleven to achieve both high school and collegiate graduation, Simon’s journey reflects the resilience and tenacity nurtured during his upbringing as a migrant student. His artistic proclivities served as a vital outlet, enabling him to navigate the complexities of a challenging childhood rooted in agricultural labor. Through his work, Simon embodies the profound connection between art and personal experience, illustrating how creativity can be a beacon of hope and a catalyst for change.
