Artist : Tom Tomlinson "Gather up the fragments"

For Tom Tomlinson, assemblage is to " renew" "reorganize" materials that have lost their original purpose or function. The materials may be cancelled, tossed, lost, eroded by use, intent, indifference or accident. The wood, paper, metal, and plastic pieces that constitute these constructions.  Tomlinson's artistic creations serve as visual representations that prompt us to contemplate the potential and optimism present in our surroundings. Through the reevaluation of individual objects and their placement in new contexts, Tomlinson encourages us to ponder the concept of value.  This show runs from Jan. 18th - 29th 2025, and the LMF offers 29 works for collection.

About Tomlinson:

Tomlinson, a past professor at Claremont Men's College and dean at USC, is 40+ year resident of Sierra Madre, CA.  He cites the inception of his work as the time, when as a child, he was asked to "take out the trash." Child-Tom, would find "parts for imagined machines."  He's never stopped finding those parts.  After his academic career, Tom became more serious about his assemblage and positioning it for showing, presenting his work several galleries including the Library at Occidental College and The BAG Gallery, Sierra Madre, CA
